Treatment Provider
Gordon Moody Association provides specialist residential and online treatment programmes for people with severe gambling disorder in Great Britain.
Gordon Moody Association was founded in 1971 and is one of the UK's oldest specialist gambling treatment charities. Named after the Reverend Gordon Moody, who pioneered addiction counselling in Britain, the organisation specialises in intensive residential treatment for people whose gambling problems have not responded to outpatient approaches.
The Association operates residential treatment houses offering structured therapeutic programmes combining group therapy, individual counselling, 12-step work, and life-skills development. Referrals are accepted from GPs, GamCare, self-referral, and other healthcare professionals. The service is free for clients, funded through charitable donations and NHS contracts.
Gordon Moody also operates the Gambling Therapy online support platform — a free global service providing online chat support, community forums, and self-help resources accessible to anyone affected by gambling, including those outside Great Britain.
Gordon Moody's residential programmes offer one of the most intensive treatment options available in the UK for gambling disorder. The structured 12-week programme takes clients away from their everyday environment — removing them from gambling triggers and enabling full focus on recovery through daily therapeutic work.
The therapeutic model combines evidence-based approaches including CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy), motivational enhancement, group therapy, and 12-step facilitation. Clients also receive practical support around financial management, relationships, and rebuilding their life outside treatment. Post-treatment aftercare support is available.
Gordon Moody's residential service is intended for those with severe, complex, or treatment-resistant gambling disorder — where less intensive approaches have not been effective. Referral via GP, GamCare, or NHS clinician is the standard pathway, though self-referral is also accepted.
